Environmental Assessment Well Plugging 2025 Ohio River Islands NWR

In 2024, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge), received federal funding through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (Public Law 117-58) to plug orphaned oil and/or gas wells leaking into the Ohio River. This Environmental Assessment (EA) evaluates and 
publicly discloses environmental impacts potentially resulting from plugging five oil and/or natural gas wells on the Refuge (Proposed Action).
