Draft conservation plan for the Sacramento Mountains checkerspot butterfly (Euphydryas anicia cloudcrofti)

This draft conservation plan for the Sacramento Mountains checkerspot butterfly represents a collaborative effort between Federal agencies and local governments. The most current information on the butterfly’s life history, habitat needs, and status has been assembled. A comprehensive discussion of the known threats to this species is included. Conservation measures have been developed for the Sacramento Mountains checkerspot butterfly with an accompanying implementation schedule. The general approach is a combination of protection of both occupied meadow habitats as well as meadow habitat that is unoccupied but that has the vegetational attributes important to the butterfly. Following an adaptive management concept, this Conservation Plan may be modified as needed in response to management, monitoring, and research data. Yearly meetings are planned with the partners and all other interested parties pursuant to the Memorandum of Understanding.
