Decline of Submerged Aquatic Vegetation in Lake Mattamuskeet

A series of maps of submerged aquatic vegetation coverage in Lake Mattamuskeet between 1989 and 2021. In 1991, SAV covered almost the entire lake; however, during the mid-90s SAV declined in the west basin, and by 2013 there was none left. In 2014 SAV populations dramatically crashed in the east basin as well. Since 2017, there has been practically no SAV in the lake. Decline of Submerged Aquatic Vegetation in Lake Mattamuskeet

This series of maps, adapted from Moorman et al. 2017 and updated with latest survey data, show the percent coverage of submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) in Lake Mattamuskeet over time. In 2020, SAV was found at just two points in the lake; in 2021, no SAV was found.
