Original caption: Dam and improved desert waterhole on the refuge. Before dams such as these were built on the refuge the natural water seeps would often go dry during the long dry season. Improved waterholes like this support the needs of many wildlife forms which often travel many miles to reach it. Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, near Yuma, Arizona, May 1949.
