The marsh system on the Aransas NWR is under constant threat due to erosion. Erosion is caused by a variety of factors, boat traffic and hurricanes are major contributors to erosion on the Refuge. Over the past 10 years multiple projects to armor Refuge marshes have been implemented. It is generally accepted that sea level rise can increase coastal erosion rates, to what degree has yet to be determined.
