A female Bufflehead with ducklings swims together in the water at Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. Buffleheads are cavity nesters and nest in tree cavities often created by pileated woodpeckers or flickers. The Refuge has many northern flickers to create potential nest cavities for bufflehead ducks. Photo by James "Newt" Perdue/USFWS Volunteer.
