An Atlantic salmon sac fry, so-called for the nutrient-rich sac that serves as its food source before emerging from the gravel streambed in early spring. The orange color of the eggs and fry is derived from the femal salmon's diet of shirimp while feeding at sea. The young fish's head, eyes, vertebrae, heart and blood system are clearly seen.
