Acoustic monitoring unit
An acoustic monitoring unit hangs on a tree in Lassen National Forest. These units record the sounds of the forest for about three months. Biologists hope to capture the hoot of a California spotted owl, but the units record the sounds of many animals. The recordings are analyzed back in a lab.
