This report provides state trend information on the number of anglers, hunters, and nonconsumptive wildlife-related recreation participants from 1980 to 1990. Nonconsumptive participants are those persons who observed, fed, or photographed wildlife. They engaged in those activities with the primary purpose of enjoying wildlife-related recreation. Trend information is important to many natural resource managers and others interested in wildlife. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's series of National Surveys of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation (FHWAR) has been a source of information on wildlife related recreation since 1955. Changes in the methodology of the detailed phase of the1991 FHWAR Survey make the data collected in that phase incomparable with that of past FHWAR Surveys. However, the methodology of the screening phases of those surveys remained the same. The trend information presented here is based on 4 the screening phases of those surveys which cover the years 1980, 1985 and 1990.
