About this Collection

The Records and Information Management Branch, which falls under the Division of Information Resources and Technology Management, manages the Bureau’s Records Program. They support FWS to assure proper documentation of records for the organization, functions, policies, decisions, procedures, and essential transactions of the Service and designed to furnish the information necessary to protect the legal and financial rights of the Government and of persons directly affected by the Bureau’s activities. They ensure that the FWS operating units, develop, maintain, archive, or dispose of official records in conformance to law. They conduct audits and educates FWS employees regarding filing records, records retention, and disposition of federal records.

The Federal Records Act (44 U.S.C. 31) and corresponding Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs) require all federal agencies to maintain records that document their activities, file records for safe storage and efficient retrieval, and dispose of records according to agency schedules.
