This HCP covers wind and solar project development as well as transmission lines across the lesser prairie-chicken’s range. LPC Conservation, LLC’s HCP will fully offset impacts from enrolled projects while providing regulatory certainty for the development of renewable energy across its range, should the lesser prairie-chicken become listed under the ESA in the future.
In 2025, FWS approved an amendment to the Renewables (Wind and Solar), Energy, Power line, and Communication Tower HCP. The amendment incorporated the revised estimated occupied range (EOR) for the lesser prairie-chicken and corresponding HCP Plan Areas that covers portions of Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. By expanding the covered area of this HCP, the amendment ensures that any energy developers interested in operating within the expanded areas of the lesser prairie-chicken range, will have the same streamlined ESA mechanisms available as the other portions of the species' range.
