The grounds of the Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges Headquarters in Lacombe are a Northshore secret – a former tourist attraction known as “Bayou Gardens” where over 100 cultivars of camellias and a variety of azaleas bloom along inviting pathways under oak and pine trees. An upcoming open house on February 24, 2024 will celebrate these gardens and offer tours, displays, and workshops with a focus on learning about ways to support native plants and pollinators in your home landscape. Camellia experts will also be on hand to identify some of the hundreds of blooms in the gardens.

Join us for garden tours, workshops on gardening with native plants and how to host butterflies and pollinators, family-friendly craft activities, exhibits from local area organizations, a “bug-arium” exhibit for kids, and more!
