2024 State Contest: In March 2024, the FWS Sacramento Regional Office successfully hosted the California Junior Duck Stamp Contest (JDS) virtually. Eight judges from various organizations judged 200+ pieces of artwork and selected winners for the state of California. Artwork by Olga Sergienko (age 16) from Sacramento won the distinguished title of California’s Best of Show and will compete in the national competition. Lorie Wu, age 12, from Saratoga, wrote the winning message — “Yesterday, nature was a miracle. Today, it is a gift. Without conservation, tomorrow it will be a memory.” The winning artwork is featured on the regional Pacific Southwest Flickr.
