The Service’s National Fish Passage Program and Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program teamed up with the Summit Lake Paiute Tribe to replace a 40-year-old culvert that had been hindering Lahontan cutthroat trout spawning runs.  Above, William Cowan, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service fish biologist, who also serves as the Summit Lake Paiute Tribe Natural Resources Department director, displays substrate rock used in the design of a new culvert on Mahogany Creek near Summit Lake. The new culvert will help advance spawning Lahontan cutthroat trout into the creek from the lake.
