Grant Projects Subject to Streamlining Under the NHPA Programmatic Agreement (PA) FY2023

Office of Conservation Investment
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Alaska Region 7

This report was provided to the Alaska State Office of History and Archaeology to satisfy the annual reporting requirements for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), Office of Conservation Investment actions taken pursuant to the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) Programmatic Agreement (PA), Regarding Implementation of Grant-Funded Programs for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG) under State Wildlife and Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration grants.  The PA requires that the Service post this report to its website.

The tables enclosed capture the grants including project titles and descriptions subject to streamlining under Appendices C and D of the PA during federal fiscal year (FY) 2023 (October 1, 2022, through September 30, 2023).

A total of 37 projects were subject to streamlining under Appendix D.

On May 10, 2023, Service Cultural Resource staff, in conjunction with Debbie Corbett (contracted Archaeologist) and Sarah Meitl (Alaska State Historic Preservation Office Staff), held a four-hour virtual training class related to implementation of the PA for Service Program Biologists, ADFG Program Coordinators, and other interested grant applicants.

No grant funded projects received a “No Adverse Effect” determination from the Regional Historic Preservation Officer, therefore there are no locations to identify where multiple WSFR funded projects that received a “No Adverse Effect” determination are located within 0.5 mile (1 km) of each other per PA stipulation III A. Due to this, no cumulative effects analysis is required.

None of the signatories to the PA formally proposed any additions or amendments during FY 2023.
