EXETER, NH— The Department of the Interior will host a public listening session on June 27 at Exeter High School to obtain comment on expanded outlines of the National Ocean Council’s strategic action plans. Released on June 2, these plans are being developed to implement President Obama’s National Policy for the Stewardship of the Oceans, Our Coasts and the Great Lakes. Dr. Alan Thornhill, Science Advisor to the Director of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE), will represent the Department at the June 30th listening session in Exeter, New Hampshire. Throughout June, the National Ocean Council, which includes 27 federal agencies and offices, will host 12 public listening sessions around the country. A list of the sessions, including a full agenda for the New England listening session, can be found here. These listening sessions have three main objectives: 1) to hear about and discuss the actions and issues most important to Americans, 2) to use this knowledge to inform development of each of the nine strategic action plans, and 3) to offer a forum for the public to learn about the National Ocean Policy.
