Life got cha down? Looking for something to celebrate? Mark November 4, on your calendars because it will be the end of two years of political wrangling and the beginning of Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival on North Carolinas Outer Banks.
Wings Over Water is the perfect fall event and is held during the "shoulder season" when accommodations rates are lower, traffic is light and the weather is mild.
Pete Dunne, birder, author, lecturer, vice president of the New Jersey Audubon Society and director of the Societys Cape May Bird Observatory will be the speaker at this years Wings Over Water keynote dinner. The author of The Wind Masters, Hawks in Flight, The Feather Quest, Dunne's Essential Field Guide Companion, he also has written regular columns in birding magazines, as well as the "New Jersey Sunday
Section" of the New York Times. He will sign books at the dinner.
His keynote program, "Twenty-five Things That Changed Birding," will be a reflection upon some great and small institutions, ideas, products, initiatives, and byproducts that changed the face of birding, making it the avocation it is today. Some are obvious. Some
will surprise.
The keynote dinner will be at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7, at Roanoke Festival Park. Cost is $30 and advanced registration is required.
Dunne also will lead a two-part workshop on how to pish the birds into view. The first
45 minutes will be indoors where he will go over the basics of pishing before going outdoors for the second half of the program. During the latter portion, participants can pucker up and try out their new-found skills. Cost $20.
A limited number of registrants can sign up to spend a day with Dunne. The day will begin with a 4x4 caravan trip to Cape Hatteras Point. At lunch time, participants will dine with him at a local restaurant before heading north in search of more birding treasures.
Registration is limited to ensure a quality experience. The $100 registration fee covers the entire day including lunch and transportation.
