The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) has determined a "Finding of No Significant Impact" for the final Environmental Assessment of the Utahs Division of Wildlife Resources (Division) proposed project entitled "Disposal of the Roosevelt Upland Bird Management Unit." The proposal is a Wildlife Restoration project administered jointly by the Division and the Service.
The 117.38-acre tract, which included 46.5 shares of irrigation stock, was purchased in 1948 by the Division. The land was purchased with funds through a Wildlife Restoration grant with the Service. Federal funds provided 75 percent of the cost of the land and water purchase.
The purpose of this proposed action is to dispose of 117.38 acres of the Roosevelt Upland Bird Management Unit located near Roosevelt in Duchesne County. This parcel no longer provides hunting opportunities for Utah hunters due to the close proximity to residential homes, relatively small size, and limited wildlife value.
The Preferred Alternative is to sell the 117.38-acre property on the basis of appraised value. The revenue from the sale would be credited to the Division's wildlife grant account to be reinvested in other projects under the Wildlife Restoration Act grant program in the State of Utah. Public comments were solicited on the draft Environmental Assessment, no comments were received.
