Obtain Permits for Hunting at Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge from the Refuge

The Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge is reminding hunters of changes to its hunting and public use program. A free General Hunting Permit and Harvest Information Card is required for the upcoming 2007/2008 season. This permit can ONLY be issued through Refuge Headquarters.

Hunters can obtain a permit by submitting their name and address to the Refuge Headquarters anytime during the normal business hours of Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. To receive your permits in the mail, call (918) 773-5251 during normal business hours. Please allow five to seven business days to receive these permits if you have called in your request. Hunters must be in possession of the printed General Hunting Permit before hunting. Leaving only a phone message without receiving a printed permit does not meet the legal requirements. Permits for same day hunting are only available Mondays and Tuesdays by applying in person at the refuge office during normal hours. We strongly encourage you to submit for your permit as soon as possible to avoid any future delays in your refuge hunting opportunities.

Harvest Information Cards will be available at the Refuge Headquarters and Information Kiosks. This card will need to be completed and returned to the refuge headquarters by no later than May 1, 2008. You must complete a card even if you have nothing to report or did not hunt. Failure to return a Harvest Information Card by the deadline could result in forfeiture of hunting privileges on the refuge for the 2008/2009 hunting season. These cards submit important information about hunting success on the refuge and critical biological information necessary for sound wildlife management.

This new permit system is necessary to insure that public use information is collected for use in planning and justification of future refuge activities.

For additional information contact the refuge headquarters at 918-773-5251 or write Refuge Manager, RTE 1 Box 18 A, Vian, Okla., 74962.
