U.S. Fish and Wildlife Lists Santa Cruz County Plant as Endangered, Designates Critical Habitat for the Species
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service today listed Scotts Valley polygonum, a plant native to Santa Cruz County, California as an endangered species. The Service also designated 287 acres as critical habitat for the polygonum.
About 278 acres of the designated critical habitat for the polygonum are on private property, with the remaining nine acres owned by the Scotts Valley High School District. The area designated as critical habitat overlaps with the critical habitat that was designated for the Scotts Valley spineflower in May 2002.
