Mexican Gray Wolf Found Dead
An investigation into the death of a yearling female Mexican gray wolf is being conducted by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agents. The wolfs body was sighted lying alongside highway 191 in eastern Arizona by a passing motorist sometime on Sunday, March 21st.

The wolfs remains have been sent to the Services National Forensics Laboratory in Ashland, Oregon for necropsy.

Female wolf #563 was a member of a family group just released last week into the Apache National Forest. The remaining family members continue to range free in the forest and are being closely monitored.

Agencies involved in the Mexican Gray Wolf recovery effort are the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Arizona Game and Fish Department, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, U. S. Forest Service, and U.S. Department of Agriculture - Wildlife Services.
