Need to Know
  • Fees: All programs are free with a valid entrance pass. Learn more about fees on our Visit Us page.
  • Reservations: Space may be limited and reservations may be required for some tours, please see the program descriptions for more information.
  • Cancellations: Some programs are subject to weather conditions and may be cancelled due to inclement weather.
  • Come Prepared: Always check the weather conditions before leaving home and dress appropriately for the day. This might include wearing a hat, sunglasses, long sleeves, long pants, and walking shoes. We recommend that you bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
  • Etiquette: During programs, participants must remain respectful of the program leaders, other visitors or participants, and any wildlife they may encounter. A parent or guardian must accompany all youth under the age of 18.
  • Trails: Trail surfaces are either mowed grass, shell-rock gravel, or a wooden boardwalk. Trails are mostly flat without steep inclines, but some trails have uneven surfaces and exposed roots.
  • Note for large groups: Please contact refuge staff at least one month in advance to make a reservation for guided tours of groups larger than five (5) individuals. Reservations allow staff to avoid conflicts between other groups and resource management activities, and to arrange logistics for those groups requesting services.

Tram Tours - Monday - Saturday at 10 am. Friday and Saturday at 1 pm. 

No tour on Tuesday November, 25, Wednesday, November 26 or Thursday, November 27

Walking and biking are a great way to see the Refuge, but sit back and relax on this educational tour via tram! Each row seats three people, but the middle seat is very small. Unless you have a small person sitting between two people, we will seat you two to a row. The tram also has a running board approximately 6 inches off the ground, hand rails on the side of each bench, and a hand hold at the ceiling of the tram. Seats are not assigned with your reservation and we recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the tour. Tours are approximately 90 minutes long. Maximum number of passengers is 8 people. Reserve your spot(s) by calling the Visitor Center at 561-734-8303.

Sunrise Photo WALKING Tour - Sunday November 16, 23, and 30. Starts 15 minutes after sunrise 

Grab your camera and join Peter and Lora Lekos for a guided walking tour to view and photograph wildlife in its natural settings. The walking tour is approximately two hours and participants should expect to walk 1-2 miles. Meet at the Marsh Trail Pavilion 15 minutes after sunrise. Space is limited and reservations are required - Call the Visitor Center at 561-734-8303.

Peaceful Nature Walk - Thursday November 20 at 9:30 am.

Stroll alongside a volunteer naturalist for a slow-paced walk that cultivates a sense of curiosity and serenity. This 1-mile walk will take approximately one hour. You will be guided along one of two popular trails on the Refuge. Ask questions about what you notice or simply enjoy some time in nature. Sign up today by calling the Visitor Center at 561-734-8303.

Crafts for All Ages- Tuesday December 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 at 1 - 2 pm.

Engage your curiosity and creativity by visiting the Refuge for a nature or wildlife themed crafting activity. The activity lead will guide your through the craft as they share fun facts on that week's topic. The crafts are meant to be enjoyed by visitors of all ages. All supplies will be provided. The groups will meet inside the visitor center. Sign up today by calling the Visitor Center at 561-734-8303. 

Beginner Birding - Thursday December 4, 11, and 18 at 10 am - 11 am.

Try out a new possible hobby by joining our beginner birding program. This program is perfect for visitors looking to step into the world of birding and learn the basics. During this one-mile long walk, your guide will show you how to identify and spot common birds of the Everglades. Field guides and binoculars will be provided. Know the Dark Night Hike - Friday December 19th at 6 pm - 7 pm. 

Experience the Everglades after dark by tagging along for an evening night hike. This 0.4 mile walk will be lead without flashlights to allow your eyes to adjust to the darkness and experience the Cypress Swamp at night. The groups will meet at the visitor center. Closed toed shoes recommended! Space is limited and reservations are required - Call the Visitor Center at 561-734-8303.

Try Archery - Tuesday December 23rd at 1 pm - 3 pm.

Try out a new type of outdoor recreation during our "Try Archery" program! During this program participates will be instructed on the basics of shooting a archery bow. All participants (Ages 8+) must wear closed toe shoes and must be able to lift and hold 25 lbs. Participants must tie long hair back and remove all loose jewelry from neck, arms, and face. No reservations required, meet at the Pond Lily Pavilion. 

Special Events

Everglades Day 2026 - Saturday February 14th, from 10 am to 3 pm.

Join us this year for our annual Everglades Day event to celebrate the unique ecosystem of the Everglades. Enjoy outdoor recreational activities such as guided introductions to fishing and archery, or discover something new through guided tours and special exhibitor booths. This family-friendly event features fun for all!
