Federal Junior Duck Stamp Design Contest
This year, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is sponsoring Alaskas first ever Federal Junior Duck Stamp Design Contest. This wetlands and waterfowl education and conservation program is one of the Services most popular for students, and now extends throughout all 50 states. The program incorporates wildlife management principles into a visual arts curriculum. This nontraditional pairing of subjects brings new interest to both the sciences and the arts. All students K-12 are invited to enter their original "Duck Stamp" drawing of a North American duck, goose, or swan in its natural habitat. Entries must be mailed to the address below and be postmarked by March 15, 1996. Judging will take place in early April with a recognition and awards ceremony to be held in May.
Ribbons and prizes will be awarded to each group (K-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12). The Best of Show winner will be entered into the national competition to select the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Design. Information and registration materials were mailed to every Alaskan school, in early December. The national winning design will be printed on a stamp.
Entries should be sent to: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest, 101 12th Avenue, Box 17, Fairbanks, Alaska 99701. For more information or to receive registration materials, contact Betsy Whitehill at (907)456-0402.
