Summary
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) proposes to determine the least chub (Iotichthys phlegethontis) to be an endangered species and to designate critical habitat pursuant to the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended. This small monotypic minnow is endemic to the Bonneville Basin in Utah where it was once common and widely distributed. Populations of least chub have declined, and it now only exists within Snake Valley in western Utah. The continuing decline in range and abundance of the least club has been attributed to competition and predation from nonnative species and habitat loss and alteration.
