Ways to Get Involved

Whether you have just a few hours or want to commit long-term, Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge offers many ways for people of all ages to help protect the environment. Volunteers play an important role in supporting wildlife, restoring habitats, and enhancing visitor experiences.

Volunteering

Volunteer opportunities are available through the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve website.

You can also support the refuge and volunteer by joining the Friends of San Diego Wildlife Refuges, a group dedicated to protecting local wildlife and habitats.

Our Partners

Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge is committed to working with partners to conserve and protect natural and cultural resources. Successful stewardship of public lands, waters, and wildlife requires collaboration between the Refuge System, other government agencies, and private organizations.

Below is a list of the partners we work with to make conservation possible.

Outreach

Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge offers hands-on education programs for students, as well as tours, lectures, and outreach opportunities for adults.

In addition to ongoing programs, the Tijuana Estuary hosts special events throughout the year, including Fiesta del Rio in September and International Migratory Bird Day activities in May.

Education Programs

National Wildlife Refuges serve as outdoor classrooms, offering hands-on learning about wildlife and natural resources. Each year, thousands of youth and adult groups visit to explore topics like wetland plants, birds, plankton, and their habitats.
