Saltwater fishing is allowed in designated areas per Rhode Island state regulations, but there are very few shoreline access points and no trails at John H. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge. Parking is available at the refuge kayak ramp near Sprague Bridge. A popular site for striped bass, many anglers prefer to fly-fish in this location.
