Summary
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) proposes endangered status pursuant to the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (Act), for Blackburn's sphinx moth (Manduca blackburni). This species was found on the Hawaiian islands of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui, and Hawaii, but is currently known only from one population on Maui. This moth has been affected or is currently threatened by one or more of the following; habitat degradation, introduced animals, and biological pest control. Due to its currently restricted distribution and small population size, this species is also threatened by naturally occurring events. This proposal, if made final, would implement the protection provisions provided by the Act for this moth.
