Biiologist Sheila Eyler from the FWS Maryland Fisheries Resouce Office, Annapolis, MD is tagging a female horseshoe crab on Bowers Beach, Delaware. The male and female horseshoe crabs come up during high tides, couple together, and spawn on the beach. Biologist drills a small hole into the larger female (in front) with a portable drill and then the plastic identification tag is riveted in the hole. This helps track the movement and life histories of this little known species.
