Species that are considered uncertain risk need a more in-depth assessment beyond the Risk Summary to better define the species’ risk to U.S. environments.
Diaphanosoma fluviatile, is a neotropical cladoceran native to South America, Central America, and the Caribbean that can be found in rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. They are similar in appearance to other Diaphanosoma species native to the United States and feed mainly on bacteria, detritus and algae. D. fluviatile are parthenogenic and offspring hatch from unfertilized eggs. This species has been introduced to and is established in the United States and Canada, however the History of Invasiveness for D. fluviatile is classified as Data Deficient due to a lack of information regarding impacts of introduction. The climate matching analysis for the contiguous United States indicates establishment concern for this species. Areas of high match were found throughout the United States east of the Great Plains region. The Certainty of Assessment for this ERSS is classified as Low due to patchy distribution information, including limited georeferenced observations for use in the climate matching analysis, and lack of information regarding impacts of introduction. The Overall Risk Assessment Category for D. fluviatile in the contiguous United States is Uncertain.
