Original caption: Family of California Quail approaching one of the desert waterholes. The male bird is in front, followed by the Female and the group of young. This approach was usually made with considerable caution. Most of the family stayed out of sight in the brush until one of the adults went forward to investigate. Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, near Yuma, Arizona, May 1949.
