Refuge Connections: Grassland Management

DeSoto and Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge will be hosting its second Refuge Connections Program on April 25th starting at 6:30 pm at the Desoto Visitor Center. The topic for this month’s program will be on grassland management. During this program participants will get to head out on the refuge with staff to learn about the various tools that are used to manage our grassland habitats. The program will include a tour of a field where a recent prescribed burn was conducted. These programs are free to attend but we do require pre-registration so we can ensure proper transportation and supplies. To sign up or learn more, contact Park Ranger Peter Rea at 712-388-4803 or peter_rea@fws.gov. Keep an eye out for future Refuge Connections programming which will include topics such as Eagle Nest Exploration, Bluebird Nest Box Exploration and Managing DeSoto Lake. This new program series is held once a month and is geared towards providing family-friendly programs that connect visitors to some of the current highlights and happenings of the wildlife, habitat and management of the refuges. The program provides participants an opportunity to learn more about the refuge and ask staff questions regarding the current management activities. The programs are also a great way for individuals to discover how they can get involved with their local refuges through volunteerism or joining our Friends Group organization. The Friends of Boyer Chute and DeSoto National Wildlife Refuges sponsor these programs and will provide snacks, refreshments, and all necessary supplies.
