Environmental Education

Education programs on Klamath Basin Refuges attempt to engage all learners in outdoor experiences that increase appreciation, connection, and stewardship of public lands and natural resources. Our education staff conduct environmental education field trips, distance learning, and interpretive programs for children and adults.

Whether working with adults or children, environmental education programs are learner-centered and provide participants with opportunities to construct their own understanding through hands-on, minds-on investigations. We believe that environmental education often begins close to home, encouraging learners to understand and forge connections with their immediate surroundings.

Curriculum-based Field Trips

Take your students on a field trip to a National Wildlife Refuge to view and learn about the wildlife and habitat. Each field trip is grade specific and correlated to applicable, state, and local educational goals and objectives. The Refuge requires a ratio of 1 adult to every 10 students. There are outdoor lunch facilities available for use.

Teacher-led field trips                                                                                                                                                                                Teacher-led field trips to the Refuge are typically self-guided. Depending on selected dates, rangers may be available to lead a refuge introduction. All educators and group leaders are required to schedule their group's trip in advance.
