"On 6/25/10, Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge Wildlife Biologist Jackie Isaacs explained the importance of habitat for foraging shorebirds and pointed out proactive measures taken by refuge staff soon after the spill began. Across Ivan Cut, refuge staff built a simple berm which will block oil-laden water to protect more than a thousand acres of open waters and wetland habitat in Little Lagoon. The Town of Gulf Shores partnered on the project by blocking Lagoon Pass, essentially cutting off Little Lagoon from the Gulf. These measures are temporary and intended to remain in place only while the threat of oil persists. Pictured with Isaacs are crews from CBS, W-KRT, and Local 15 News.
