The Trowel Garden Club and the Garden Club of Lake Ridge are delighted to co-sponsor a captivating Small, Standard Flower Show at the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The theme of the show, “Springtime Harmony by the Bay,” reflects the seasonal beauty and tranquility of the setting. This event is free and open to the public. The purpose of a National Garden Club (NGC) flower show is to educate club members and the viewing public, to stimulate interest in horticulture and floral design, to provide an outlet for creative expression, and to communicate NGC goals and objectives.
Visitors will be treated to imaginative designs and innovative ideas, while also having the opportunity to learn about gardening and horticulture. Club members will display the finest plants from their home gardens in the horticulture competition, and showcase creative displays incorporating various plant materials in the design competition. Adding to the event’s interest, there will be an educational segment focused on Mason bees, celebrated for their remarkable pollination abilities.
After enjoying the flower show, visitors are encouraged to hike through the refuge to observe the diverse flora and fauna of the natural landscape.
