One of the Service's retirees duties in his first days at a fish hatchery was to protect the brood stock, new hatchlings and fingerlings in the fishery pools. Often fish-eating birds or mammals would stop by to get a buffet meal. He was handed this rifle and told "shoot anything that eats fish."
