Current Road Conditions: May 5, 2026
Many spur roads have unknown conditions after this winter's rains. Visitors should expect and prepare for rough road conditions. Travel with a safety plan and bring enough supplies and gas to turn around if impassible conditions are found. For your safety and the safety of rescue personnel, please respect all closed signs and notices. Reminder that OHVs are prohibited throughout the Refuge and all vehicles must stay on established, designated roads.
Alamo Road: Partially Open
Alamo Road is currently closed between Hidden Forest Rd to the Dry Lake bed. From Corn Creek, visitors can travel as far as Hidden Forest Rd, but through traffic is not possible, and all traffic must turn around at Hidden Forest and return via Corn Creek. High clearance and 4WD is currently required, and visitors are asked to proceed with caution.
Conditions through the dry lake bed on Alamo Road are unknown. This area has very fine dirt which causes hazardous driving conditions when dry, obscuring visibility and hidden road hazards like rock and ruts. When wet, it is very sticky and difficult to drive through without becoming stuck. Cell and radio service are very limited, so stranded vehicles will not be able to call for help. If you choose to travel through this area, please be prepared for emergencies and have the tools and knowledge to conduct a self-rescue.
Mormon Well Road: OPEN from Corn Creek to Hwy 93 and is in normal condition. Damage from the early June storms has been repaired, and the road is now fully open. High clearance required, 4WD recommended. Condition of Pine Nut Rd is unknown.
Gass Peak Road: OPEN
Gass Peak Rd and its spur roads are all open, but road conditions are unknown. High clearance and 4WD is currently required, and visitors are asked to proceed with caution.
