Ranger-lead Guided Hike

Ranger-lead Hiking Opportunity

Come spend your Saturday morning at Columbia National Wildlife Refuge with Ranger Bre on a hike of the Crab Creek Trail. Deep, plucked-bedrock pits formed by kolks, basalt outcroppings, and wetlands are just a few of the features to be seen along the way. If you’re interested in taking a trip through time by learning about the history of how the landscape of Columbia NWR came to be, then this is the hike for you. Ranger Bre will provide information on the geologic history of the refuge as well as the more recent history of how the Columbia Basin Project altered the landscape.

The hike will take place on January 27th and will depart from the Crab Creek southern trailhead on South Morgan Lake Road at 10:00 a.m. and will return no later than 11:30 a.m. The hike will not cover the entirety of the Crab Creek Trail, only a 1-mile portion. This is the least strenuous portion of the trail, making this hike a great opportunity for even the most novice of hikers.

Be sure to dress for the winter weather and bring along your water bottles and binoculars, if you have them. You never know what we might observe! Questions? Contact Ranger Bre at breanna_hild@fws.gov or 509-488-6965.
