New to birding or just curious about the birds around you? Join us for First Flight: A Beginner’s Birdwalk at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge—a welcoming, guided walk designed for those who are just starting out or want to sharpen their birdwatching skills in a relaxed setting.
Led by refuge staff or volunteers, this walk will introduce you to the basics of bird identification, how to use binoculars, and tips for spotting birds in the wild. We’ll explore some of the refuge’s most accessible trails and observe a variety of local and migratory species.
Meet at the Visitor Center at 9:00 a.m. and be prepared to drive your own vehicle up to 15 miles. This program will include short walks on refuge trails, please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
Whether you're 8 or 80, this is a great way to connect with nature and discover the joy of birding. Bring your binoculars, a field guide if you have one, and your curiosity! Don't have any binoculars or bird field guides? No worries! We will loan those out to you for FREE at the visitor center—just ask when you arrive!
