October is night surf fishing month at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Anglers have the opportunity to stay on the refuge beach after hours, until midnight, with a Special Use Permit. This special fishing access has been a popular staple of fall at Back Bay since 2007.
Details
- Special Use Permits cost $35.00 (cash or check) and may be picked up at the wildlife refuge. Please bring your fishing license (of Fisherman Identification Program number), photo ID and cash or check.
- Special Use Permits are available for purchase Thursday - Saturday, 10:00am-3:00pm.
- Night fishing is open to anglers age 16 and older, with a valid Virginia fishing license and Special Use Permit.
- Anglers must arrive at the refuge prior to sunset and may remain on the beach until midnight. All vehicles must exit the parking lot by 12:30am.
- Special Use Permits are valid October 1 - 31. There is no limit on the number of days anglers may use their Permit.
