Join hatchery staff and Dan and Judy Dourson, author of several field guides covering many topics including plants, fungi, and of course--land snails! The Dourson's have devoted most of their lives to discovering and describing the more overlooked organisms of our world.
Currently residing in eastern Kentucky, the Dourson's have described countless flora and fauna of the region, but have also spent a great deal of time completing research projects in the mountains of east Tennessee, and most recently, research on land snails in Belize.
Come learn about the unique and unsuspecting biology of land snails like their teeth (yes, snails have teeth!), some that have slime (mucus) that fluoresces under a blacklight, and more!
We will be exploring the hatchery's nature trail in search of land snails weather permitting!
