Candlelight Ski

Please note that the Candlelight Ski event was previously scheduled for February 3rd and is now postponed to Saturday, February 24th, due to unfavorable weather reports. Join us for a free, fun way for all to get outside this winter! Crane Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, in collaboration with the Friends of Crane Meadows NWR, will host its tenth annual candlelight ski event on Saturday, February 24th at the Sedge Meadow Classroom. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. as the moon begins to rise. The night's activities will include skiing, snowshoeing and hiking a 1-mile segment of the Platte River Trail, which will be lit with luminaries. When you need to warm up, join us at the bonfire and enjoy hot drinks and refreshments provided by the Friends of Crane Meadows NWR. If there is sufficient snow on February 24, skiing will happen as usual. If that is not the case, visitors may instead enjoy candlelight snowshoeing or walking. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own equipment. A limited number of skis and snowshoes will available for free checkout during the event. A headlamp or flashlight is also recommended. Please note that the refuge is normally open to visitors during daylight hours only. Access is being provided after dark for this evening only. Accessibility: Restrooms will be available inside the Sedge Meadow Classroom building. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is committed to providing access to these events for all participants. Please direct all requests for special accommodation to Refuge Headquarters: 763‐389‐3323, cranemeadows@fws.gov, or TTY 800‐877‐8339 at least two weeks prior to the event.
