Love birds? So do we! Join us for a free celebration of birds and art at the refuge's Education Center. On Oct. 7, the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma opens Avis Marvelous: Ornithology on the Western Frontier, 1776-1896, an exhibition of over 50 historic engravings that provide a glimpse into the documentation and art produced about birds in the North American West during this era. In partnership with the Washington State Historical Society, we'll have our collection of taxidermied birds on display at the Education Center. We'll provide paper and pencils (or bring your own sketchpad and materials), and artists will demonstrate how to draw birds. Learn about the Duck Stamp and Junior Duck Stamp contests. At noon, there will be a bring-your-own-lunch presentation on the history of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. Everyone is welcome!
