The hatchery is just one of the many Service field stations whose mission is working with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
Our facility is open to the public from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. for self-guided tours of the outdoor raceway area.
Activities
An estimated 50,000 people visit the hatchery annually for the opportunity to see a close-up view of the fish production process. The public is invited to take a self-guided tour of the outdoor raceways viewing fish of many sizes.
Additional activities in the local area:
- Camping at the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers JFK or Dam Site campgrounds.
- Fishing on the Little Red River and Greers Ferry Lake.
- Boating and swimming on Greers Ferry Lake.
- Hiking the Sugarloaf Mountain trails, Heber Springs, AR.
Trails
While the hatchery does not have hiking trails on its grounds, several popular trails are located nearby and are easy to access, including those in and around Heber Springs.
Rules and Policies
To ensure a safe and pleasant visit to Greers Ferry NFH, please refrain from walking on the raceway walls and catwalks. Do not place your hands in the water, feed items to the fish, throw objects into the water, or disturb the fish in any way. Running within the raceways is prohibited. All pets must be leashed and under control at all times.
We kindly ask that visitors allow staff ample space to safely perform their duties.
- Dogs must remain on a leash and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
- Public fishing is not permitted on hatchery property.
- For strict biosecurity reasons, hands and objects must not be placed in or on the water.
- The operation of drones is prohibited on hatchery grounds.

Driving directions: Coming from Heber Springs, cross the Greers Ferry Dam, turn right on Hatchery Road. Continue about one mile. The main entrance is on the left just prior to entering the JFK campground.
Coming from Tumbling Shoals, turn left on Hatchery Road just prior to crossing Greers Ferry Dam. Continue about one mile. The main entrance is on the left just prior to entering the JFK campground.
