The primary responsibility of Greers Ferry National Fish Hatchery is to raise rainbow and brook. The hatchery also plays a role in the freshwater mussel propagation program. 
Steelhead are usually dark olive in color, shading to silvery white on the underside with a heavily speckled body and a pink-to-red stripe running along their sides.
