Wetlands cover more than 5 million acres of Wisconsin. Although once regarded as wastelands, wetlands are now recognized as ecologically and economically valuable ecosystems. The preservation of wetlands is important for the continued survival of much of Wisconsin's plant and wildlife resources.

National Wetlands Inventory
