Wetland Resources: Illinois

The diverse wetlands of Illinois, which cover about 3.5 percent of the state, have resulted from the interaction of geologic events, human activities, and hydrologic conditions. The State contains several ecologically significant wetlands. Two examples are Beall Wbods on the Wabash River in eastern Illinois and the swamps along the Cache River in the southern part of the state.
