About
Private John Allen National Fish Hatchery was established in Tupelo, Mississippi, in 1901 and is named after the Congressional representative who delivered the famous "hatchery speech." Today, the hatchery cultures 12 different fish species, including Alligator Gar, Lake Sturgeon, and Gulf Coast Walleye, to support restoration efforts and recreational fishing. In addition to fish production, the hatchery leads the Aquatic Habitat Restoration Team to improve aquatic habitat and increase fish passage across the nation.
