Hiking and horseback riding is allowed throughout most of Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge. While there are no true designated routes or trails, most seasonal roads are closed to vehicles from December through early June and provide easy access free of vehicle travel. Popular routes include:

  • Warner Valley Overlook Trail which offers informational signs and great vista points, and
  • Petroglyph Lake walk-in access for three to four miles round trip hike along a closed road

Be prepared with plenty of water, sunscreen, snacks, clothing layers, and first aid supplies. Make sure someone knows where you are traveling and when you will contact them. Cell coverage is not readily available; have a back-up safety plan.

Check out the "Rules and Regulations" and "Current Conditions" for further safety and road updates.
