Celebrate our conservation heroes in the refuge's Education Center. Author Janine Gates will present on citizen activism that saved the Nisqually Delta, the subject of her new book. Three new conservation hero posters will be displayed. Join us for this free talk and refreshments.
Janine is an Olympia-based journalist and photographer. She spent six years researching her book.
“The fight to save the Nisqually Delta was not easy. There have been many attempts to alter it. It’s a national success story, but even today, the Nisqually Delta still needs to be saved from urban and industrial encroachment,” said Gates.
The Conservation Heroes Poster Project aims to honor eight people who made a difference for the Nisqually Delta and the refuge. On display will be posters honoring Ellie Henke, Margaret McKinney, and Dr. Gordon Alcorn.
The Education Center is accessed from the first parking lot. It is only open to the public during special events. It is used for a robust education program serving 9,000 students annually. The posters will remain on display for these students to learn from and enjoy.
