A national wildlife refuge is typically a contiguous area of land and water managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service  for the conservation and, where appropriate, restoration of fish, wildlife and plant resources and their habitats for the benefit of present and future generations of Americans.

  • VIPs will speak at 11 a.m. at the Twin Barns.
  • Open House is at the Education Center noon to 2.
  • 1-hour guided history walks are at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.  The 10 a.m. meets at the Visitor Center and ends at the Twin Barns.  The 12:30 p.m. meets at the Education Center.
  • Parking is extremely limited! Carpool or catch a van shuttle from the Hawks Prairie Park-n-Ride at 2548 Hogum Bay Rd NE, Olympia, WA 98516. Shuttle starts at 9:30 and runs until 2.
  • The Twin Barns are a half mile walk from the parking lot.  Please plan accordingly.  If you require assistance, contact the refuge before August 15: nisqually@fws.gov, 360-753-9467.
